Notes on Jeconiah; the cursed King
18 Therefore this is what the LORD says
about Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: 19 He will have the burial of a
donkey-- 20 "Go up to Lebanon and cry out, 21 I warned you when you felt secure, but you said, `I will not listen!' This has been your way from your youth; you have not obeyed me. 22 The wind will drive all your shepherds away, and your allies will go into exile. Then you will be ashamed and disgraced because of all your wickedness. 23 You who live in `Lebanon, [2] ' who are nestled in cedar buildings, how you will groan when pangs come upon you, pain like that of a woman in labor! 24 "As surely as I live,"
declares the LORD, "even if you, Jehoiachin [3] son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, 25 I will hand you over to those who
seek your life, those you fear-- 26 I will hurl you and the mother who
gave you birth into another country, 27 You will never come back to the land you long to return to." 28 Is this man Jehoiachin a despised,
broken pot, an object no one wants? 29 O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD! 30 This is what the LORD says: 2.[23] That is, the
palace in Jerusalem
(see 1 Kings 7:2) 6 Jehoiakim rested with his fathers. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king. 7 The king of Egypt did not march out
from his own country again, because the king of Babylon had taken
all his territory, 8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old
when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three
months. 9 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, 10 At that time the officers of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon advanced on Jerusalem and laid siege to it, 11 and Nebuchadnezzar himself came up to the city while his officers were besieging it. 12 Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his attendants, his nobles and his officials all surrendered to him. In the eighth year of the reign of the king of Babylon, he took Jehoiachin prisoner. 13 As the LORD had declared, Nebuchadnezzar
removed all the treasures from the temple of the LORD and
from the royal palace, 14 He carried into exile all Jerusalem: all the officers and fighting men, and all the craftsmen and artisans--a total of ten thousand. Only the poorest people of the land were left. 15 Nebuchadnezzar
took Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. 16 The king of Babylon also
deported to Babylon
the entire force of seven thousand fighting men, strong
and fit for war, New International Version (NIV) 27 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Evil-Merodach became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin from prison on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month. 28 He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. 29 So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king's table. 30 Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived. 16 The successors of Jehoiakim: Jehoiachin his son, and Zedekiah. 17 The descendants of Jehoiachin the captive: Shealtiel his son, 2 Chronicles 36:8 - 10 8 The other events of Jehoiakim's
reign, 9Jehoiachin was
eighteen years old when he became king, 10 In the spring, King Nebuchadnezzar
sent for him and brought him to Babylon, 5 Now there was in the citadel of Susa a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin, named Mordecai son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, 6 who had been carried into exile from Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, among those taken captive with Jehoiachin king of Judah. 1 After Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and the officials, the craftsmen and the artisans of Judah were carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the LORD showed me two baskets of figs placed in front of the temple of the LORD. 20 which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take away when he carried Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, along with all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem-- 21 yes, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says about the things that are left in the house of the LORD and in the palace of the king of Judah and in Jerusalem: 22 `They will be taken to Babylon and there
they will remain until the day I come for them,' declares
the LORD. 4 I will also bring back to this place Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and all the other exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,' declares the LORD, `for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.'" 2 (This was after King Jehoiachin and the queen mother, the court officials and the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen and the artisans had gone into exile from Jerusalem.) 1 Zedekiah son of Josiah was made king
of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon;
31 In the thirty-seventh year of the
exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, 32 He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. 33 So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king's table. 34 Day by day the king of Babylon gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived, till the day of his death. 2 On the fifth of the month--it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin-- 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah
[1] and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. New International Version (NIV) |
