Notes on a Sabbath Day's
Journey
In Christ's time on earth there were a system
of man's ordinances were instituted by the Jews
to regulate God's law. Since work was forbidden
on the Sabbath a rule was made as to how far one
may travel on the Sabbath day. The distance was a
short walk, the NIV Study Bible estimates about
three quarters of a mile. That the Sabbath was a
day of rest was God's law, that man may walk no
further than ¾ of a mile is of man.
