Notes on Saints

In Romans 1:7 the word "saints" is a translation of the Greek word "hagios". A saint is one of the elect of God, pure, blameless, and holy not on their own merit but through the atonement of Jesus Christ. This term would apply to the members of the Church to which Paul was writing just as it would apply to any sound Christian Church today. In other words a saint is anyone who has God's Grace and Faith. Not to be confused with the unbiblical demi-deification of the deceased by the Roman Catholic Church on the basis of works, signs, and wonders.
