Notes on Jesus and his Betrayer

When Jesus says in Matthew 26:23 , "He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me", he indicates a high degree of intimacy with his betrayer. When Jesus and his apostles sat at meat they reclined around a low table in very close proximity to each other. They ate out of communal bowls and it would be harder for men to be much closer and stay within the Jewish laws and customs.
