Notes on "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani

Perhaps one of the most understood lines in the Bible is when Jesus cries out "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani" from the cross. Commonly casual readers assume that Jesus is doubting God. But how can God doubt God for Jesus himself is one in being with the father. Instead of doubt and abandonment Jesus is quoting the 22nd Psalm a vote of confidence in the faithfulness of God. So instead of taking "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani" out of context read the 22nd Psalm and learn the context of the great hope and promise of "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me".
