Notes on Faith

In Matthew 8:10 - 13

Jesus praises the faith of the Centurion and tells us that those who receive the gift of faith will replace the nation of Israel. We see the same sort of faith in the Canaanitish woman in Matthew 15:22 - 28 Neither the woman nor the centurion are of the nation of Israel but by their faith they are saved.

When it says that many shall come from the east and the west Mt 8:1 it referes to the Gentiles. In it's earlest form Judiasm was a tribal religion as the faith matured it became obvious that God was God over all, the one true God. With Jesus the way to God was cleared so that I as a gentile may sit with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob

Matthew 8:10 - 13

8:10 And when Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

8:11 And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven:

8:12 but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

8:13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, [so] be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.

Matthew 15:22 - 28

15:22 And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon.

15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

15:24 But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

15:25 But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

15:26 And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs.

15:27 But she said, Yea, Lord: for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour.
