Notes on Good Eyes and Bad
Eyes
In Mathew 6:22 -
23 it says, "The lamp of the body is the
eye." The word for eye is translated from
the Greek "Ophthalmos". It's simple
meaning is eye but it is also a metaphor for
"the eyes of the mind, the faculty of
knowing" Ophthalmos
- Greek Lexicon.
So these verses are a metaphor for if one
takes in the truth one will be filled with the
knowledge of God but if one cannot comprehend the
truth then one cannot come to know God. These
passages are certainly not a condemnation of the
blind but it is a condemnation of those who
cannot or will not understand the word of God.
