Notes on "John the
Baptist"
John was the son of "a
priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the
priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth
was also a descendant of Aaron."
Luke 1:5
At the time of John the Baptist
people were seeking the return of the Prophet
Elijah. Malachi 4:5
predicted the return of Elijah as a precursor to
the coming of the Lord. When they saw John
dressed in the same manner as Elijah was
described in 2 Kings 1:8
many saw him as Elijah. However as we are told in
2 Kings:11 2 Elijah
did not die and we know John was born then they
can not be the same person.
N. B. If John is John and not
Elijah then when can we expect to see Elijah? No
one can say for sure but I am intrigued by
Revelation 11:3 "And I will give power to my
two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260
days, clothed in sackcloth."
